Faafiti, McMillan earn December Bison of the Month honors

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Gallaudet University Athletics Department announced the two recipients of the Bison of the Month recently for the month of December. The honorees are from women's basketball, junior center Easter Faafiti (Pittsburg, Calif.), and from men's basketball, sophomore guard Brandon McMillan (Frederick, Md.).

Faafiti earned back-to-back Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week during the first two weeks of December. Faafiti averaged 18.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 7.0 steals per game in three wins during the month of December. Gallaudet pulled off to monumental victories during December. On December 2, Faafiti had a 22-point, 12-rebound double-double performance in leading the Bison to its first victory in conference play since 2005 with a 57-51 victory over Stevenson University. Faafiti drained 9-of-11 field goal attempts in registering her fourth double-double of the season while adding two steals and an assist for GU, which snapped a 63-game losing streak against CAC rivals. The Bison followed that win with a 26-point blowout against York (Pa.) College that snapped a 19-game slide against the Spartans dating back to 2000. Faafiti had 16 points, nine rebounds, seven steals, two assists and a blocked shot against the Spartans on the road. The 26-point loss was the worst for York at home since January 20, 2001. Faafiti closed out the month with a triple-double performance with 17 points, 12 steals and 11 rebounds in a non-conference win over CCNY.

McMillan averaged 25.3 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game for the men's basketball team in December. The sophomore netted a career high 33 points in a tough 64-62 loss to Stevenson on December 2 at home in CAC action. In that game, McMillan shot 13-of-25 from the field (52 percent), grabbed nine rebounds, made three steals and passed out two assists. The following game he was held in check against York as he scored 13 points but rallied to close out the month of December strong with a 30-point game against CCNY. McMillan added nine rebounds and two assists in the 77-67 loss.

The January Bison of the Month will be announced during the first week of February.
