Pangia, Ritz earn November Bison of the Month honors

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Gallaudet University Athletics Department announced the two recipients of the Bison of the Month recently for the month of November. The honorees are from football, freshman linebacker Tom Pangia (Hammonton, N.J.), and from women's cross country, junior runner Rose Ritz (Wauwatosa, Wis.).
Pangia shared Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Rookie of the Year honors as he was named to the all-conference first team defense. The freshman linebacker was tied for the most tackles by a freshman in the ECFC with 66. He finished the year ranked ninth for tackles for loss (0.70 per game) for 15 yards. In the month of November he made four tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss of three yards in a thrilling 16-13 victory over SUNY Maritime to give GU a 6-4 record for the season. The winning record against a varsity schedule is the first in program history since 1930. The game before Pangia made a team-high eight tackles against Anna Maria on Halloween as the Bison won 56-7. GU was rated as the top defense in the ECFC.
Ritz finished fifth overall at the Capital Athletic Conference women's cross country championships on November 7 in Walkersville, Md., to lead the Bison to a fourth place team finish. Ritz finished the 6,000-meter course with a time of 25:12.39. Her performance garnered her All-CAC first team honors. She is the first Bison to earn those honors since 2000. The following week she represented Gallaudet at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional race in Greensboro, N.C., where she finished 89th overall out of 189 runners. Ritz finished the regional meet with a time of 27:06.
