Gallaudet Athletics ready to begin 2009-10 season

WASHINGTON, D.C. - All fall varsity teams will be in action this weekend as Gallaudet University athletics begins the 2009-10 season. There is one home game on tap while the other five Bison teams hit the road Labor Day weekend.

The action begins Friday, September 4, as the Bison volleyball team travels north to Gettysburg, Pa., to participate in the Battlefield Classic. GU will face Carnegie-Mellon and St. John Fisher on the first day of competition that begins at 3 p.m. A hour later the GU women's soccer team takes the short trip into Maryland to face a Division II school in Washington Adventist University (formerly known as Columbia Union) at 4 p.m. in Takoma Park, Md. The night concludes with the Bison men's soccer team in action under the lights down at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, things get started when the Bison men's and women's cross country teams run in the Sea Gull Opener at Winter Place Park in Salisbury, Md., at 10 a.m. At Noon, the Bison volleyball team begins the second day of the Battlefield Classic with a match against Geneva College followed by a match with Richard Stockton. The highlight for the day is the home opener for the GU Bison football team who will host the Merchant Marine Academy at 1 p.m. at Hotchkiss Field. The men's soccer team will play its second game of the weekend at 1 p.m. as the Bison face Methodist in the Guilford tournament.

The weekend comes to a close on Sunday, September 6, when the women's soccer team travels to Frederick, Md., to face Hood College in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) game at 1 p.m.
