WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Gallaudet University Athletics Department announced the two recipients of the Bison of the Month recently for the month of October. The honorees are women's soccer senior midfielder Virginia Keeler (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and senior football player Joshua Doudt (Medina, Ohio).
Keeler went on a tear in the final month of her stellar Bison career as she netted a career-best 14 goals and four assists in 10 October matches. She had one of the best games in program history during a road match at College of St. Elizabeth on October 10, where she scored a career-high five goals on nine shots, including the game-winning goal. She finished her career by recording an astonishing 1.4 goals and 3.2 points per game for the month of October. Her 16 goals and 36 points ranked her fourth in the NEAC for both categories.
“Virginia has had an outstanding career during her four years playing soccer. Her senior year alone has thrust her into the Bison record books. She is an outstanding player and a great role model,” said Gallaudet coach Sarah Gumina.
Doudt had a wonderful month to cap off a great football career for the Bison. In his five games played and started, he finished October with 41 total tackles, five tackles-for-a-loss mounting to 21 lost yards, two sacks for a loss of 13 yards, an interception returned for 22 yards, and two kick returns for 22 yards. Doudt had his best games against Mount Ida College on October 16 and Anna Maria College on October 30, in which he had 10 tackles in each contest. His terrific interception came during the Mount Ida game as well.
“Josh has been not only a leader on and off the field, but he has been one of our most versatile players on the team, playing numerous positions on offense, defense and special teams,” said Gallaudet coach Chuck Goldstein.
The November Bison Athletes of the Month will be announced in early December.
