WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gallaudet University is gearing up for the inaugural NCAA Division III Week set for April 9-15. Division III week is a time for the 450 members of the division to celebrate accomplishments of their student-athletes but also to get involved in campus and community life and service.

Each Division III institution and conference have been asked to schedule and publicize at least one activity during the week ranging from community service, special recognition of their student-athletes to working with Special Olympics, the group Division III has partnered with nationally this year. The various events will showcase the Division III philosophy, which values academics, athletics and student-athlete involvement in campus and community life.

GU’s student-athlete advisory committee has planned a special volleyball game with local Special Olympians to be hosted this week in the Field House. In addition the Gallaudet athletics department wants to thank all 225 of its student-athletes for their dedication, time and achievements on and off the field of play this year.

“Gallaudet is excited to partake in the first-ever NCAA Division III Week. It is important to recognize our student-athletes as much as we can. We want to thank them for making Bison athletics what it is today,” said Gallaudet University Athletic Director Michael Weinstock.
