2014-15 Gallaudet University winter athletic schedules released

WASHINGTON – While the fall sports teams make their push towards the playoffs, the winter teams are just getting ready to start. GU’s winter sports schedules were recently released and there is a lot to be excited about for the upcoming seasons.

Here are the schedule highlights for each sport:

Men’s Basketball

2013-14 Record: 6-19, 5-13 NEAC
Can’t Miss Home Game: Jan. 31 vs. Lancaster Bible College

Schedule Overview: The 2014-15 season opens at home against non-conference foe Yeshiva University on Nov. 16 at the Field House. After a brief road trip, GU returns home to open up North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play against Penn College on Nov. 23.

Following, the Bison will remain home for three straight weekends, during which GU will be hosting its annual Holiday Tournament (Dec. 5 and 6) welcoming Maryland Bible College, Fisher College and Valley Forge Christian College. The Bison close out the homestand and the month of December against non-conference opponent Goucher College.

After returning from winter break the Bison will finish the rest of the season against conference opponents. The Bison will start the spring semester on the road against Penn St.-Abington on Jan. 6. Two days later, the Bison return to the Field House to face new conference member Bryn Athyn College followed a one-game road trip against Penn College (Jan. 10).

GU will then start a three-game homestand against SUNY Cobleskill (Jan. 17), SUNYIT (Jan. 18) and Wilson College (Jan. 21). Following the homestand the Bison will hit the road for two games against Cazenovia College (Jan. 24) and Morrisville State College (Jan. 25).

The Bison return home for five games against Penn St.-Abington (Jan.28), Lancaster Bible College
(Jan. 31), Penn St.-Berks (Feb. 1), Keuka College (Feb. 7) and Wells College (Feb. 8).

Following the home games GU will finish the regular season with four road games against Wilson College (Feb. 14), Bryn Athyn (Feb. 18), Lancaster Bible (Feb. 20) and finishing up at Penn St.-Berks (Feb. 21). The conference tournament begins Feb. 24 and continues through the weekend of Feb. 28-March 1.

Women's Basketball

2013-14 Record: 15-12, 11-5 NEAC
Can’t Miss Home Game: Jan. 31 vs. Lancaster Bible College

Schedule Overview: Gallaudet women’s basketball opens the 2014-15 season with back-to-back exhibition games at home against Bridgewater (Va.) College on Nov. 9 followed by a road trip to Winthrop University on Nov. 15. Winthrop, a Division I program, is coached by former Gallaudet women's basketball head coach Kevin Cook. The Bison begin the regular season with North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) home games against Penn College on Nov. 19 and College of St. Elizabeth on Nov. 22. The Bison then hit the road to Randolph College on Nov. 26 for a non-conference game.

GU will then host its annual Holiday Tournament on Dec. 5-6 welcoming Valley Forge Christian College, Trinity College and Howard Community College to campus. These are the final games for the women's team in the month of December.

Returning from winter break the Bison will take on Randolph-Macon College on Jan. 3 at the Field House before hitting the road on Jan. 6 to face conference foe Penn St.-Abington. GU returns home to host new NEAC member Bryn Athyn College on Jan. 8.

Finishing the rest of the season against conference opponents, GU you will hit the road for two games, facing Penn College Jan. 10 and College of St. Elizabeth on Jan. 11. The Bison return home for three games against SUNY Cobleskill (Jan. 17), SUNYIT (Jan. 18) and Wilson College (Jan. 21).

Back on the road the Bison will take on Cazenovia College (Jan. 24) and Morrisville State College (Jan. 25). Gallaudet then closes out its home regular-season schedule with five games against Penn St.-Abington (Jan. 28), Lancaster Bible College (Jan. 31), Penn St.-Berks (Feb. 1), Keuka College (Feb. 7) and Wells College (Feb. 8).

The Bison wrap up the regular season on the road against Wilson (Feb. 14), Bryn Athyn (Feb. 18), Lancaster Bible (Feb. 20) and Penn St.-Berks (Feb. 21). The conference tournament begins on Feb. 24 and will continue through the weekend on Feb. 28-March 1.

Men’s Swimming & Diving

Last season: NEAC Champions
Can’t Miss Home Meet:
Oct. 31 vs. Cazenovia College

Schedule Overview: The men’s swimming and diving team will open the 2014-15 season with three consecutive home meets against Ferrum College (Oct. 4), Frostburg State University (Oct. 18) and will complete the home stretch against NEAC foe Cazenovia College (Oct. 31).

Heading to Greensboro, N.C., the Bison will have to face Greensboro College on Nov. 1. Following the away trip, GU will return home on Nov. 14 to face Marymont (Va.) University. After the home meet GU will return to the road to face Goucher College on Nov. 15.

Back at the Field House the Bison will take on non-conference opponent Bethany College on Nov. 22. The Bison will finish the rest of the season on the road, the first of which will be a meet on Dec. 6 at SUNY Cobleskill as the Bison face Wells College, Alfred State and host Cobleskill.

GU will finish the regular-season schedule at York (Pa.) College against Penn St.-Altoona and the host Spartans on Jan. 16. The Bison, the defending NEAC champions, will then prepare for the conference championships on Feb. 13-15 in Cobleskill, N.Y.

Women’s Swimming & Diving

Schedule Overview: The women’s swimming and diving team will open the 2014-15 season with three consecutive home meets against Ferrum College (Oct. 4), Frostburg State University (Oct. 18) and will complete the home stretch against NEAC foe Cazenovia College (Oct. 31).

Heading to Roanoke, Va., the Bison will have to face Greensboro College along with Hollins and Guilford on Nov. 1. After the tri-meet the Bison will remain on the road and face conference member Cedar Crest College on Nov. 8. Following the away trip, GU will return home on Nov. 14 to face Marymont (Va.) University. After the home meet GU will return to the road to face Goucher College on Nov. 15.

Back at the Field House the Bison will take on non-conference opponent Bethany College on Nov. 22. The Bison will then hit the road on Dec. 6 at SUNY Cobleskill as the Bison face Wells College, Alfred State and host Cobleskill.

GU begins the New Year at York (Pa.) College against Penn St.-Altoona and the host Spartans on Jan. 16. Gallaudet returns home to host Notre Dame of Maryland University on Jan. 21 before closing out the regular-season schedule on Jan. 24 at College of St. Elizabeth. The Bison, who finished third overall at last year's NEAC championships, will then prepare for the conference championships on Feb. 13-15 in Cobleskill, N.Y.
