Gage, Gordon chosen as February Bison of the Month presented by GIS

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University Athletics Department has announced the February Bison of the Month recipients presented by Gallaudet Interpreting Services (GIS). Senior guard Zamica Gage (Washington, D.C.) of the women's basketball team and senior forward Trey Gordon (Talladega, Ala.) of the men's basketball team were selected for their magnificent displays in the month of February.

The Bison women’s basketball team won six of the 11 games played in February with Gage leading the team with 204 points (averaging 9.5 per game) as well as adding 66 rebounds, 52 assists and 39 steals points. Gage scored 20 or more points in six games and 33 points in the first round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) tournament against Bryn Athyn College to match her third highest scoring game this season.

“During Zamica's career, we have seen her grow in many areas on and off the court," said Gallaudet women's basketball coach Stephanie Stevens. “When she realized how much the team relied on her positive leadership, she worked everyday, stepped up her game, and helped us get to the NEAC semifinals. Her statistics prove how versatile she was on both ends of the court. Thanks for your contribution to our program, Zamica!”

Gordon helped lead the team to win eight of the 10 games in the month of February with 211 points, 50 rebounds, 24 assists, and 17 steals. Gordon scored in double digits in every game and scored 20 or more points in five games including 30 points in the game against Bryn Athyn College to tie his career high.

“Trey has really set the bar high in what it means to excel as a student-athlete," said Gallaudet men's basketball coach Kevin Kovacs. “It is very rare to see anyone excel equally as good as either a student or athlete. That is what Trey has done to represent himself and the Gallaudet University Basketball team throughout his years at Gallaudet. We will deeply miss him and we know he will keep on stampeding as a Bison in whatever path he chooses to stampede on. We wish him the best!”

These are the sixth Bison of the Month awards for the 2015-16 athletic seasons. Each month the Gallaudet University Athletics Department will recognize two standout student-athletes (one male, one female) from their respective sports. Previous winners include the month of September; freshman cross country runner Otto Kingstedt (Stockholm, Sweden) and women's volleyball senior setter TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.); October: Kingstedt and women's soccer sophomore Anastasia Murray(Raleigh, N.C.); November: Kingstedt and women's swimming senior Anna Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden); December: senior men’s basketball guard Trey Gordon (Talladega, Ala.) and sophomore women’s basketball guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.); January: senior women’s basketball forward Danielle Morris (St. Louis, Mich.) and men’s basketball center Joshua McGriff (Somerset, N.J.).
