Polivanchuk, Kingstedt named November Bison of the Month presented by GIS

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University Athletics Department has announced the November Bison of the Month recipients presented by Gallaudet Interpreting Services (GIS). Senior Anna Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) of the women's swimming and diving team and freshman men's cross country runner Otto Kingstedt (Stockholm, Sweden) were selected for their superlative displays in the month of November.

The women’s swimming team had three competitions against four other teams throughout November. The Bison won their first meet against Ferrum College while at Hollins University where Polivanchuk placed first in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. She also had two first-place finishes in the meet at home against Cedar Crest College in the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard butterfly.

“Anna has been recovering from a significant injury [from last year] and is getting back into racing condition. She's tough and the team is expecting great results from her as we head towards the NEAC championships in February,” said Gallaudet swimming and diving coach Larry Curran.

The men’s cross country team participated in the 2015 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional meet on November 14 in Newville, Pa. Kingstedt placed 20th overall out of 371 runners. He crossed the 8K finish line in 26 minutes and 2.4 seconds, which is a new personal record for the Bison runner, and the fourth fastest time in school history. Kingstedt was named to the 2015 Mideast Region All-Freshman Team and earned all-region honors as one of the Top 35 finishers.

These are the third Bison of the Month awards for the 2015-16 athletic seasons. Each month the Gallaudet University Athletics Department will recognize two standout student-athletes (one male, one female) from their respective sports. Previous winners include the month of October; sophomore Anastasia Murray (Raleigh, N.C.) and Kingstedt, September; senior setter TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) and Kingstedt.
