LEESBURG, Fla. – The Gallaudet University baseball team's five-game win streak came to a halt on Sunday at Pat Thomas Stadium against Husson University as the Eagles (6-4) won 10-3 over the Bison, who are participating in the 2011 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The game was the first of five for the Bison (7-5) during their Spring Break trip.
Freshman pitcher Tyler Crace (Westfield, Ind.) started the game for the Buff and Blue and surrendered six runs to Husson. After the first, Crace settled down and went five innings where he gave up nine runs on 10 hits, walked five and struck out three. Fellow freshman pitcher DJ Travaglini (Plaistow, N.H.) came in to relieve Crace and pitched the final four innings of the game. He allowed one unearned run on three hits and struck out four Eagles.
At the plate, junior William Chapman (Los Angeles, Calif.) went 2-for-4 where he scored a run and earned a walk. Freshman William Bissell (Brewer, Maine) had a three-run double to spark the Bison offense.
Gallaudet will look to get back in the win column tomorrow (Monday, March 14) as the Bison will play two against Daniel Webster College at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park Field #3 in Auburndale, Fla. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
