GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week awards for April 9, and Gallaudet University sophomore Marcus Smith (Baltimore, Md.) was selected as the NEAC West Baseball Pitching Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this year.
Smith (4-3) threw a complete game one-hitter against Penn St.-Abington on April 6. The sophomore pitcher shut down the league's most productive offense in the 11-0 win. Smith picked up his fourth win of the season, which moved him into a three-way tie for most wins in the NEAC. Smith finished the game with three strikeouts and two walks. His no-hit bid was broken up in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two out double.
This award gives Gallaudet baseball four NEAC West Player of the Week awards for the season. Senior pitcher Ryan Hastings (Cherry Valley, Mass.) was named the NEAC Baseball Pitching Student-Athlete of the Week on March 5 while Smith and sophomore outfielder William Bissell (Brewer, Maine) were picked on March 19.
