Gallaudet's Ryan Hastings earns NEAC Baseball Pitching Student-Athlete of the Week honor
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week awards for March 5, and Gallaudet University senior Ryan Hastings (Cherry Valley, Mass.) was named NEAC Baseball Pitching Student-Athlete of the Week. This is the first week for NEAC player of the week awards for the spring season.
Hastings threw a complete game in his first start of the season on Saturday, March 3, against Baptist Bible (Pa.) College. He allowed one hit in the first inning and didn't surrendered another hit until the sixth inning. He finished the 10-2 win by allowing five hits as the Defenders scored two runs (none earned) as he walked two and struck out seven, a new career-high mark. Prior to March, he pitched twice in relief for the Bison in February. He has logged 10 innings pitched this season with eight strikeouts and a 2.70 ERA.
Matt Lawson from Penn St.-Abington was named the NEAC Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week.
This is the first NEAC Player of the Week award for the Bison this season matching their total from last season, GU's first in the conference.
GU will next prepare for its Spring Break trip to Florida when the Bison will participate in the RussMatt Invitational starting on March 10. The Bison will play seven games in six days before returning home.
