Rain shortens first game for Bison against Daniel Webster, second game washed out

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Gallaudet University baseball team won a rain-shortened ballgame on Sunday against Daniel Webster College as the Bison led 6-4 in the sixth inning when the game was called at Lake Myrtle Park. The Bison scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a two-run lead after trailing 4-0 through the first two innings.

Sophomore catcher Casey Hicks (Henderson, Nev.) delivered the key two-run double in the fifth to put the Bison up for good. Hicks finished the day with three RBI. Sophomore All-American William Bissell (Brewer, Maine) went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three singles, two runs scored and one RBI. Sophomore first baseman Chris Guinn (McLoud, Okla.) had the other extra-base hit for the Bison with a double in the third inning. He later scored on a RBI single by freshman second baseman JJ Klein (Cincinnati, Ohio).

Senior pitcher Jeremy Adams (Glenn Dale, Md.) earned his first win with the Bison as he pitched five innings and allowed four runs on four hits, walked four and struck out two.

Daniel Webster (0-2) started the bottom of the sixth inning with two hits off senior pitcher Ryan Hastings (Cherry Valley, Mass.) before the game was called due to rain.

Gallaudet and Daniel Webster were slated to play two games on Sunday but the second game was wiped out due to the rain and will not be made up on this Spring Break trip.
