NEWBERG, Ore. - The first 2013 NCAA Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honors were announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Thursday for games of Feb. 25-March 3. Gallaudet sophomore pitcher Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich.) was one of nine pitchers to earn honorable mention honors in the country.
Thiel College senior Nick Rossmiller was picked as the Division III National Pitcher of the Week after he tossed a three-hit shutout on opening day for the Tomcats, who won 6-0 over Finlandia. Rossmiller took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as the right-hander struck out 12 batters and walked one as he earned Presidents' Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors earlier this week.
Holsworth was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after he pitched a complete game shutout against University of Mary Washington last Sunday. The 6-foot-4 right-hander allowed three hits and struck out three batters as GU won 6-0 to snap a 0-55 series record and give the Bison their first victory over the Eagles in program history.
George Fox University catcher Josh Rapacz was picked as the Division III National Hitter of the Week as he batted .692 (9-for-13), eight runs, nine RBIs, three doubles and a home run en route to being named Northwest Conference Position Player of the Week.
