OLNEY, Md. – The final numbers are in from the 2012 GU Baseball Golf Classic held on Oct. 15 at the Norbeck Country Club, and the event proved successful yet again. Gallaudet baseball coach Curtis Pride announced $18,000 was raised; over three years, the event has brought in more than $52,000 to the program.
"Our golf tournament was a success despite the rain. I thought everyone had a great time," said Pride. "On behalf of the Gallaudet baseball program, I want to thank everyone for their support and participation in the golf tournament whether as a golfer, volunteer or sponsor. I also would like to add a special note of appreciation to Ken Barksdale for his tireless efforts to help organize the golf tournament over the last several years."
The GU Baseball Golf Classic is open to anyone willing to play, have a fun time and help the Bison baseball program. The event included a continental breakfast and lunch for the participants. There was also an extensive silent auction including gift cards, packages, and signed memorabilia.
Pride and Barksdale were able to secure several sponsors to help support the event and the GU baseball program. INCAPITAL, Littler Mendelson, Kellogg Conference Hotel, The Moffett Group, Caption Call, Coldwell Banker and Under Armour were all important sponsors that helped make this event possible.
At 11-under-par, the winning team was the foursome of Tom Dowd, Lars Hohman, Stan Edwards and John Olszewski.
Ricky Levine won the longest drive competition for a second consecutive year, while Slemo Warigon won the closest to the pin contest.
Coach Pride's goal is to establish Gallaudet as one of the premier Division III baseball programs in the country. The funds raised will help to cover team expenses such as travel and equipment.
