Bissell, Guinn and Holsworth listed on 2014 Collegiate Baseball Division III Players to Watch

TUCSON, Ariz. – The 2014 Collegiate Baseball newspaper "College Preview" edition was recently distributed and included a listing of the top NCAA Division III Players to Watch this season and three Gallaudet University players were selected. Division III coaches nationwide chose the list of 235 names, broken down by position.

GU senior outfielder William Bissell (Brewer, Maine), senior third baseman Chris Guinn (McLoud, Okla.) and junior right-handed pitcher Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich.) were picked to their respective positions. The three selections are the most by one North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) team. Lancaster Bible College outfielder Matt Taliercio is the only other NEAC player listed.

The Bison went 20-21 last season and compiled an 11-3 conference mark as Gallaudet earned a share of the regular season NEAC championship and the No. 1 seed in the NEAC tournament played at Hoy Field.

Bissell was plagued by injuries last season and will aim to bounce back in 2014. The senior centerfielder started and played in 24 games last year where he batted .357 with 30 hits, 16 runs, six doubles, three triples, two home runs, 22 RBI, 14 walks and four stolen bases.

Guinn earned his first all-conference honor as he was picked to the second team last season. He started and played in 39 games for the buff and blue last year as he tallied 36 hits, 29 runs, nine doubles, one triple, two home runs, 24 RBI, 15 walks and two stolen bases. In the field he posted a .934 fielding percentage where he made 96 putouts.

Holsworth was the 2013 NEAC Pitcher of the Year and an All-NEAC first team honoree. The 6-foot-4 righty had team best numbers for wins (five), ERA (3.22), appearances (15), starts (11), complete games (six), shutouts (two), innings pitched (78.1), strikeouts (52) and batting average allowed (.257).

The Bison begin the 2014 season on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at home against Marymount (Va.) University at 1 p.m. at Hoy Field.
