Hicks, Holsworth sweep NEAC Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week awards for a third time

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week awards for April 7 and Gallaudet University swept the honors for a third straight time this season. Senior catcher Casey Hicks (Henderson, Nev.) was chosen as the NEAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week and junior Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich.) was selected as the NEAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Hicks shares the NEAC Baseball Player of the Week honor with Lancaster Bible College's Matt Taliercio.

With this week's honor, Hicks earns his third NEAC Player of the Week in the span of a month (March 3, March 10). Hicks had a strong week as he posted a .524 batting average (11-for-21) and blasted four home runs, one triple, eight runs and 15 RBI. In a three-game series with conference foe Lancaster Bible he batted .750 (8-for-12), six runs, three home runs, 10 RBI and four walks. He has hit four home runs in three of his last four games. He has hit safely and recorded at least one RBI in his past eight games.

With this week's honor, Holsworth also earns his third NEAC Player of the Week in the span of one month (March 3, March 10). Holsworth posted a 2-0 record and a 0.64 ERA as he pitched back-to-back complete games against conference foes. Holsworth carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning against Cazenovia College last Monday but lost the bid with a bloop single to left field as he finished with an one-hitter. He followed that performance with an 11-1 victory at Lancaster Bible last Sunday as he allowed one run and three hits in seven innings. In both games last week he had six strikeouts.

This marks the eighth NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the Bison this season. Danny O'Donnell (Olney, Md.) was honored twice (March 24, March 31) while Hicks and Holsworth swept the honors the first two weeks in March.
