GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week awards for March 24 and Gallaudet University sophomore pitcher Danny O'Donnell (Olney, Md.) was selected as the NEAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
O'Donnell was lights out in two appearances against some of the top teams in the country, going 2-0 on the mound and giving up just one run while striking out 12 batters and posting a miniscule 0.64 earned run average in 14 innings of work. O'Donnell opened the week shutting down nationally ranked Rowan University, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing five hits and striking out seven batters to help the Bison win 2-0 and take down the 10th-ranked Profs. He would shine once again in his next start, four days later, pitching another complete game and giving up one run on five hits while striking out five in a 3-1 win over Frostburg State, which came into the contest averaging 9.25 runs per game and was receiving votes in the latest Division III Top 25 poll.
O'Donnell now leads the NEAC in ERA (0.77) while being second in both wins (three) and strikeouts (29) for the Bison, who improved to 11-7 overall.
This marks the fifth NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the Bison this season. Senior catcher Casey Hicks (Henderson, Nev.) has been honored twice (March 3, March 10) as well as senior pitcher Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich.), who was picked the same weeks as Hicks.
