GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week awards for March 30 and Gallaudet University junior Ben Coleman (St. Paris, Ohio) was chosen as the NEAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. This is Coleman's first NEAC Player of the Week honor this season.
The junior righty pitched a complete-game shutout for the Bison to help them secure a 1-0 win over the University of Maine-Presque Isle last Friday. Coleman allowed just three hits – all singles – while striking out five batters through seven innings to lock up his first win of the season (1-1). Coleman now sports an earned run average of 2.57 and has eight strikeouts through 14 innings of work on the mound.
Penn St.-Berks third baseman Tom Grablewski was named the NEAC Baseball Player of the Week after he batted .556 and was perfect in the field with five putouts and 12 assists on 17 chances.
This marks the fourth NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the Bison baseball program this season. Sophomore first baseman Justin Strong (Charlotte, N.C.) has been honored twice on March 2 and 23. GU also had a NEAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week award on March 2.
Gallaudet will next dive into conference play as the Bison host Lancaster Bible College for a doubleheader on Saturday at Hoy Field at 1 p.m.
