GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) released its 2016 baseball all-conference awards on Friday and Gallaudet University freshman shortstop Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) was named to the all-conference second team. This is Upton's first All-NEAC honor.
Upton led the team in six offensive categories; batting average (.345), hits (51), doubles (8), slugging percentage (.399), on-base percentage (.412), and was tied for the team lead in stolen bases (7). He also accumulated 25 runs, 19 RBI and finished the season with a fielding percentage of .897. He was named NEAC Player of the Week back on March 7. Upton leads the NEAC in games (39), at bats (148), second in plate appearances (165) and hits (51) and fifth in doubles (8) and total bases (59).
Lancaster Bible junior Justin Taylor was named the NEAC Player of the Year after breaking the school record for home runs (17) in a season. Penn St.-Berks sophomore Sean Pavlik won the Pitcher of the Year while freshman Toby Welk was named the Rookie of the Year. The NEAC Coach of the Year went to Joe Pavlow of Penn St.-Abington.
This selection now gives Gallaudet 22 All-NEAC honors since it joined the conference in 2010-11. Nine of the 21 selections have been on the first team and 13 on the second team. The Bison baseball program also has three Player of the Year, two Pitcher of the Year and two Coach of the Year award winners in their history in the NEAC.
