Gallaudet Hosts CAC Cheer Competition
Washington, DC.- Gallaudet University hosted
CAC Cheerleading Competition on Saturday, February 21st. The
competition was open to all nine schools in the CAC and provided
the opportunity for everyone to see all the CAC cheerleading teams
compete. The teams that competed in the competition
were Gallaudet, York (Pa.), Mary Washington, Stevenson and
Marymount (Va.) Stevenson came in first, York finished second with
Mary Washington placing third.
Special recognition goes to sophomore Stephanie Durand
(South Windsor, Connecticut/Model Secondary School for the
Deaf) who placed third in the Triple Jump Off competition
against nine other competitors.
The last CAC cheer competition was held at Gallaudet in
2004. The 5 teams that participated in the competition agreed
to be sure that this competition is held annually at a different
site each year.
Although Gallaudet didn't place in the competition coach
Wendy Wiatrowski said she was "very proud of
my squad for doing very well. Gallaudet has not competed
since 2004 so this is a good start for us to get into the
competition mode. We have a goal of participating in two
competitions next year"!
The future looks bright for our cheerleading team!
