Bison place two on 2009 ECFC All-Academic Team

WHITINGHAM, Vt. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its first-ever all-academic team on Wednesday and Gallaudet University earned two of the 19 selections onto the 2009 team. Gallaudet sophomores Nathan Engel (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) and Caleb Hinton (Knoxville, Tenn.) met the high academic standards of this team as each had a grade-point average above the required 3.5. Seven of the eight ECFC teams were represented on the 19-player team led by the six selections from Husson University. ECFC champion Norwich University had three selections.

Engel, a wide receiver, saw action in nine games last season for the Bison while Hinton, an offensive lineman, played in six games as Gallaudet posted a 6-4 record, it's first winning record against a complete varsity schedule since 1930. The Bison finished tied for second in the ECFC standings with a 4-2 mark.

"The Gallaudet University football family is extremely proud of Nathan and Caleb for being selected to this elite all-academic team," said Gallaudet coach Chuck Goldstein, who took over the head coaching position this past December. "The two are role models for the rest of our student-athletes. They have proven that doing well in the classroom should be everybody's top priority."
