WHITINGHAM, Vt. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its first-ever all-conference teams on Friday and Gallaudet University earned 15 selections onto the 2009 teams and took home two individual awards. GU coach Ed Hottle was selected by his peers as ECFC Coach of the Year while freshman linebacker Tom Pangia (Hammonton, N.J.) shares ECFC Rookie of the Year honors.

Mount Ida College had eight first-team selections to lead the conference while Maritime had eight second-team honorees.

Hottle led the Bison to a 6-4 overall record in '09 and a 4-2 mark in the conference where the Bison sit tied for second with Mount Ida. The winning record is the first against a varsity schedule for Gallaudet since 1930. GU finished the regular-season on a three-game winning streak where they averaged a 30-point margin of victory. The Bison posted a 4-1 record on the road. This was also the first year of the option offense for the Bison. Gallaudet set a new program record with a 49-point win over Anna Maria and racked up 521 rushing yards. GU is ranked No. 8 in Division III in rushing offense.

Pangia shares the ECFC Rookie of the Year award with Norwich quarterback Kris Sabourin. Pangia was also selected to the ECFC first team defense. Gallaudet had three players on both ECFC second teams (offense and defense). Senior kicker Justin Wilson (Phoenix, Ariz.) a three-time ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week was picked for the kicker position and also made the second team defense at cornerback. Fellow senior Benjamin Bottoms (Chesterfield, Va.) was tabbed for the right guard position. Sophomore Phillip Hayes (Baton Rouge, La.), a two-time ECFC Offensive Player of the Week, was picked at wide receiver and also received an honorable mention nod at running back.
