Gardner earns second ECFC Offensive Player of the Week honor this season
WHITINGHAM, Vt. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference named its players of the week for October 26 and Gallaudet University senior quarterback Jimmy Gardner (St. Augustine, Fla.) was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against Becker College on Homecoming Weekend as the Bison won 37-0 last Saturday. This is the second ECFC Player of the Week honor for Gardner this season.
Gardner ran for a career best 229 yards and four touchdowns as GU recorded its first shutout this season. Gardner scored three of his four touchdowns in the second half as the Bison improved their ECFC record to 3-2. Gardner rushed the ball 30 times and averaged 7.6 yards per carry. His highlight play was a 32-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter. He shares the award with Maritime (N.Y.) College fullback Jamie Spanopoulos who recorded a career-high four touchdowns on 131 yards in a 42-0 win over Mount Ida.
This is the sixth ECFC award for the Bison this season. Gardner earned his first award back on Week 2 (September 14). Senior Justin Wilson (Phoenix, Ariz.) has earned two ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week awards (September 28, October 5) while sophomore running back Phillip Hayes (Baton Rouge, La.) earned Offensive Player of the Week (September 28) and freshman Kevin Allen (Houston, Texas) earned ECFC Defensive Player of the Week (October 5) honors.
The other ECFC weekly honors for Week 8 were awarded to Husson University defensive lineman Chris Dalecki (Defensive Player of the Week), Maritime College kicker David Kittinger (Special Teams Player of the Week) and Norwich University running back Orwin Etkins (Rookie of the Week).
The Bison hit the road this week to face Anna Maria College in Paxton, Mass., on Saturday, October 31, at Noon.
