Hayes selected as ECFC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season

WHITINGHAM, Vt. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference named its players of the week for November 2 and Gallaudet University sophomore running back Phillip Hayes (Baton Rouge, La.) was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week after his record setting performance against Anna Maria College as the Bison rolled to a 56-7 victory last Saturday. This is the second ECFC Player of the Week honor for Hayes this season.
Hayes rushed for a career-high 214 yards on 11 carries as he scored five of Gallaudet's eight touchdowns in a 56-7 win over Anna Maria. Hayes averaged 19.5 yards per carry and had a long run of 52 yards. He scored the game's first and last two touchdowns. Hayes had touchdown runs of 52, 49, 47, 29 and nine yards. He also fielded one kickoff and returned the ball 33 yards to give him 247 all-purpose yards in the game. Hayes shares the award with Castleton State running back Tyler Carpenter, who gained 298 yards and scored three touchdowns.
This is the seventh ECFC award for the Bison this season. Hayes earned his first award back on Week 4 (September 28). Senior quarterback Jimmy Gardner (St. Augustine, Fla.) has earned two ECFC Offensive Player of the Week awards (September 14, October 26) and senior kicker Justin Wilson (Phoenix, Ariz.) has earned two ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week awards (September 28, October 5). Freshman Kevin Allen (Houston, Texas) earned ECFC Defensive Player of the Week (October 5) honors in Week 5.
The other ECFC weekly honors for Week 9 were awarded to Norwich University linebacker Joseph Gumberwicz (Defensive Player of the Week), Mount Ida College return specialist Kyle Watkins (Special Teams Player of the Week) and Castleton State freshman quarterback Shane Brozowski (Rookie of the Week).
Gallaudet will close out the regular-season on Friday, November 6, on the road against SUNY Maritime at 7 p.m. as the two third-place teams in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference via for the chance to move into second place.
