Bison place five on the ECFC All-Academic team, Hinton earns second straight award
WHITINGHAM, Vt. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its second annual All-Academic honorees on Thursday, and Gallaudet University earned five of the 39 total selections. Gallaudet sophomores Anthony Palmer (Unadilla, N.Y.), Denton Mallas (South Milwaukee, Wis.), Gabriel Paulone (Fishers, Ind.), Clayton Grossinger (Fredrick, Md.) and junior Caleb Hinton (Knoxville, Tenn.) met or surpassed each of the academic and athletic standards, including a minimum 3.3 grade point average. All eight ECFC teams were represented on the 39-player team, though none earned more spots than Castleton State College with 12 total selections. Norwich University and Mount Ida College had seven each followed by Gallaudet's five. ECFC champion SUNY Maritime (N.Y.) had two honorees.
This is the second time Hinton has been selected for the All-Academic Team. He anchored a fearsome offensive line that paved the way for the 11th ranked rushing attack in Division III football. GU earned more than 261 yards per game on the ground. Gallaudet went 5-5 overall this past season as the Bison finished fifth in the ECFC with a 3-4 conference record.
On the defensive side of the ball, Mallas and Paulone - both defensive backs – played in eight and 10 games, respectively, while Grossinger, a linebacker, saw time in seven games. On the offensive side, Palmer, a quarterback, saw action in five games, while Hinton, an offensive lineman, played in nine games.
Gallaudet had two honorees last year, the first for the ECFC, when the GPA requirement was a 3.5.
