WASHINGTON, D.C. – The long awaited 2010 football season for Gallaudet University and first-year head coach Chuck Goldstein will begin Saturday, August 14, at Kendall Green as veterans and newcomers check-in for camp. Goldstein welcomes 80 student-athletes to camp a total that rivals those Bison teams from the late 1980’s under the direction of Bob Westermann.
“We are building off the foundation we established last year. The players know they can compete at this level. They have worked very hard this summer. This is a different team with a new attitude,” said Goldstein. “This team is ready to come out and win. Our goal this season is a conference championship and it is up to every player, coach, manager and support staff to help us finish the mission.”
Gallaudet’s slogan for 2010 is “Finish the Mission” as the Bison are coming off a 6-4 overall record in 2009, the first winning record against a complete varsity schedule. GU finished tied for second in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) and hope to take things one step further in 2010 with its eyes on the ECFC title.
The Bison will train at Hotchkiss Field for the next several weeks leading up to their first game on Saturday, September 4, on the road against non-conference foe U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 2 p.m. GU's home opener is the third week of the season on Saturday, September 18, against George Mason University's club team at Noon.
Gallaudet’s men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball teams will begin fall camp on Friday, August 20. The men’s and women’s cross country teams begin camp on Monday, August 23.
