Gallaudet's John Davis selected as Top 30 Under 30 in the DMV by WKYS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gallaudet University’s assistant head football coach John Davis was recently named to the 93.9 WKYS Top 30 Under 30 list for the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia (DMV) region.
The Top 30 Under 30 list highlights the best and brightest and most successful African-American’s in the DMV area who are under the age of 30. 93.9 WKYS chose its candidates after they asked their listeners to send in nominations. The feature runs through the month of February as a new person is featured each day.
“It was a surprise to me but it’s always nice to be recognized by your peers for your accomplishments,” said Davis. “This just goes to show you what hard work and an opportunity will do for you.”
Davis, 28, who also holds the position of defensive coordinator and admissions liaison for the athletic department will begin his fifth season at Gallaudet in the fall. Under the tutelage of Davis, the Gallaudet defense has seen 11-school records fall and 18 all-conference defensive players in the past three seasons. In 2009, he was selected to the NCAA Coaching Academy. That same year Coach Davis’ defense was ranked No. 6 in Division III for total defense (245.30 yards per game). GU was also fourth in the nation in pass defense (109.10 yards per game) during its first season in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC).
This past season the Bison made 33 sacks for a loss of 246 yards and 103 tackles for loss for 435 yards (ranked No. 2 in the nation) and produced 30 turnovers (16 interceptions, 14 fumbles recovered).
