Gallaudet receives two ECFC Player of the Week awards

WHITTINGHAM, Vt. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) named its players of the week for September 5 and Gallaudet University was well represented as junior wide receiver Ryne Worsham (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore defensive end Adham Talaat (Springfield, Va.) were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. The two awards are the first from the ECFC for Gallaudet this season. GU had four ECFC Player of the Week award winners last season.

The pair had a hand in keeping the Bison (0-1) in the home opening 28-27 overtime loss to Otterbein University at Hotchkiss Field last Saturday.

Worsham had a career game for Gallaudet as he hauled in seven passes for a career-best 155 yards and two touchdowns in a thrilling 28-27 overtime loss to Otterbein at home. Worsham caught a 9-yard pass on fourth down in overtime to give the Bison a shot to win the game. He had game long 44-yard reception in the loss. He also scored on an 11-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter.

Talaat made a game saving block as Otterbein lined up to attempt a game-winning 32-yard field goal with three seconds left in regulation. The 6-foot-6 Talaat busted through the line and swatted the kick attempt away as time expired to send the game to overtime. In the game, Talaat made five tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss of 13 yards and 1.5 sacks for 10 yards lost. He also had one quarterback hurry, as he was a constant threat in the Cardinal backfield.

Becker College freshman Kyle Gregg was named the ECFC Rookie and Special Teams Player of the Week. He scored two touchdowns in a 30-24 loss to Fitchburg State in the Hawks' season opener. Gregg returned this first kickoff of his collegiate career 84 yards for a touchdown.

Gallaudet will next host cross-town rival Catholic University of America (1-0) on Friday, September 9, at 7 p.m. under the lights at Hotchkiss Field.
