WHITTINGHAM, Vt. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) named its players of the week for September 12 and Gallaudet University freshman Quentin Williams (Chesapeake, Va.) earned Rookie of the Week honors following his stellar performance in Friday night's tough loss to Catholic University of America. Williams' presence was certainly felt on Bison special teams and on offense against the Cardinals.
Williams had a solid all-around game in his second collegiate appearance with Gallaudet. The rookie amassed 207 all-purpose yards and scored two touchdowns for the Bison. Williams fielded five kickoffs and returned them for 181 yards, with a long of 85 that he returned for a touchdown in the second half. He ran the ball four times for 26 yards, including an eight-yard run to start the scoring in the first quarter.
Williams also made an impact in his first collegiate game, with eight rushes for 24 yards and a touchdown against Otterbein University. This is the third ECFC Player of the Week award for the Bison in the first two weeks of the season.
SUNY Maritime senior fullback Jamie Spanopoulos was the ECFC Offensive Player of the Week as he had four rushing touchdowns in the Privateers' 48-0 win at Western Connecticut. His senior teammate Madison Leary was the conference Special Teams Player of the Week as the kicker was a perfect 6-for-6 in point after attempts and converted on two long field goals of 44 and 47 yards, respectively. Anna Maria College linebacker Troy Barnes was the ECFC Defensive Player of the Week as he returned a fumble 99 yards for a touchdown as the AMCATS lost to 42-13 to Maine Maritime.
The Bison are off this week and will next travel to Newport News, Va., to face Apprentice School on Saturday, September 24, at 1 p.m.
