GU's Tony Tatum earns second ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week award
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) named its players of the week for Oct. 15 and senior cornerback Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) was named Special Teams Player of the Week. The award is Tatum's second ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week award on the season.
Tatum had four punt returns for 106 yards including a 54-yard touchdown in the second quarter as Galladuet extended its lead to 14-0 over visiting Norwich University in an ECFC showdown. With the Cadets facing a fourth-and-long deep in their own territory early in the second quarter, Tatum lined up at midfield to receive the punt. He received it at the Gallaudet 46-yard line, danced around three would-be tacklers, looped around to the opposite sideline and raced towards the end zone untouched for the score. The touchdown was Tatum's second punt return touchdown of the year.
Norwich senior quarterback Kris Sabourin connected with four different receivers for touchdowns in the Cadets 34-24 comeback win over the Bison. He also set a new NU program record with 411 total offensive yards and was recognized by the ECFC as Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. Elsewhere in the conference, Castleton State College senior defensive back Cody TanCreti earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for his role in the Spartans 45-13 win over Becker College. TanCreti set a school record with three interceptions, including one in the Spartans own end zone to halt a scoring threat by the visiting Hawks. SUNY Maritime freshman kicker Diogo Dietrich was picked as the ECFC Rookie of the Week.
The Bison will look to get back on track on Saturday, Oct. 20, with an away matchup against ECFC foe Becker College in Leicester, Mass., at noon.
