WASHINGTON – For the second year in a row National Football League (NFL) scouts were on campus to evaluate a Gallaudet University football player as rising senior defensive end Adham Talaat (Springfield, Va.) worked out Monday for scouts from the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins. Talaat a 6-foot-6, 285-pound defensive lineman ran the 40-yard dash, was measured and interviewed by the visiting scouts.
"This was a great opportunity for Adham to get the chance to perform before NFL scouts today," said Gallaudet football coach Chuck Goldstein, who enters his fourth season at the helm. "Adham is a bright student-athlete that has been working hard to get to where he is. He needs to keep that mindset this offseason and in preparations for the 2013 season so he can help the team excel and make a name for himself."
Talaat is a 2012 Capital One Academic All-American Division III football second team performer. He also was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team for Division III for District 2. Talaat is a physical education major that has accumulated a 3.88 grade point average. He is also a two-time Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) All-Academic team honoree.
The Springfield, Va., native was named to the ECFC second team defense at the end of the season. Talaat received recognition after a 2.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss performance in a 48-26 victory over Becker College on Oct. 20 as well. For the effort he was named the ECFC Defensive Player of the Week and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Northeast Defensive Player of the Week. Talaat was selected as an all-conference honorable mention on defense in 2011.
Gallaudet went 7-3 overall during the 2012 season and finished 5-2 in ECFC play.
Last year, All-American cornerback Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) worked out for several NFL clubs on campus and just recently performed at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) Pro Day on March 4.
Talaat earned a $1,000 scholarship from National Capital Region Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF). He will be recognized on Sunday, April 7, at the 7th annual Scholar-Athlete Banquet. For more information about the award you can read the story here.
