James Nickerson named honorary coach for Saturday's homecoming football game

WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University Professor, Mathematics Program Director and Gallaudet alum Dr. James Nickerson has been nominated by sophomore quarterback Todd Bonheyo to be an "Honorary" Gallaudet Football Coach for the undefeated Bison's (6-0, 3-0 ECFC) homecoming game this weekend. Gallaudet goes up against Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) opponent Husson University (4-2, 3-0 ECFC) on Saturday, Oct. 26, 1 p.m. at Hotchkiss Field.

The honor recognizes Nickerson's commitment to teaching and leading the Bison student-athletes on a daily basis in the classroom and going above and beyond his job requirements to ensure their success. His impact on the young adults at Gallaudet is seen and respected by students and coaches alike.

"Without professors that truly care about their students education and well-being such as James, we would not be as successful as we have been thus far. His continued work and leadership at Gallaudet has helped players to grow on and off the field," said Gallaudet football head coach Chuck Goldstein.

Nickerson will lead the team onto the field an hour before kickoff and spend the rest of the game on the Bison sideline.
