Gallaudet tied for eighth in latest ECAC Lambert Meadowlands poll, Bison receive votes in coaches poll

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) released its third Lambert Meadowlands football poll of the 2013 season and Gallaudet University is in a three-way tie for eighth with Framingham State University (6-1) and Ursinus College (6-1) out of 10 available positions in the poll. This is the first time since 1987 that Gallaudet has been named in the Lambert Meadowlands poll.

Gallaudet (7-0) remains perfect after defeating Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) rival Husson University last Saturday, 16-13. Both teams were undefeated in conference play coming into the competition, but Gallaudet was able to secure the win after making a 26-yard field goal in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Gallaudet's next conference game is on the road against Becker College (1-6, 0-4 ECFC) where the Bison (4-0 ECFC) will fight to maintain an undefeated record.

Hobart College (6-0) holds the first-place spot in the Division III poll for the third week in a row. Johns Hopkins University (7-0) took second followed by Lebanon Valley College (6-1) and Ithaca College (6-1) in third and fourth, respectively. Wesleyan College (6-0) completes the top five in the poll. Salisbury University (5-2) and Thomas More College (6-1) are tied for sixth. Gallaudet, Framingham and Ursinus are tied for eighth, round out the top 10.

Gallaudet's 1987 team (9-1) finished and finished the season ranked No. 10 in the ECAC Lambert poll.

Established in 1936 as the Lambert Trophy to recognize supremacy in Eastern college football, the award has since grown to recognize the best team in the East in the Bowl Subdivision. In 1957, the Lambert Cup was created to recognize non-Division I-A teams, and in 1966 a Division III award was added. In 1983, the Lambert family decided the Meadowlands Sports Complex would be the best organization with a sincere and involved interest in college athletics to sponsor and manage the award, and since that time, the awards have been known as the Lambert Meadowlands Awards.

To be eligible for the Lambert Meadowlands Award, a school must be located in the East or play at least half of its schedule against eligible Lambert teams. The territory includes New York, New Jersey, New England and Pennsylvania, while teams in the bordering states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia and the District of Columbia qualify if at least half of their schedule features eligible teams.

The Bison have been gaining momentum in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III coaches poll the past few weeks receiving votes. GU received 21 votes this week and are on the cusp of making the Top 25. The Bison are the fourth team listed outside the Top 25 receiving votes.
