No. 25 Gallaudet is eighth in latest Lambert Meadowlands poll

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has released the fifth Lambert Meadowlands football poll of the 2013 season and Gallaudet University has secured the No. 8 spot after two weeks of being in a three-way tie for the position. This is the third consecutive week the Bison have been recognized in the Lambert Meadowlands poll.

Gallaudet University (9-0, 6-0 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference) earned its first-ever ECFC championship after defeating Anna Maria College, 35-7, last Saturday and increased its school-record win streak to 11 games dating back to last season. Gallaudet earned one of the 24 automatic qualifiers into the 2013 NCAA Division III football championship, which is made up of 32 teams and starts on Nov. 23. Gallaudet's football team becomes the first men's team in school history to make an NCAA tournament.

Undefeated Hobart College continues to hold the No. 1 position in the Division III Lambert Meadowlands poll after a 37-7 win over St. Lawrence University. Johns Hopkins University takes the No. 2 slot after a 45-30 victory over Franklin & Marshall College followed by Lebanon Valley College who defeated Stevenson University 30-6. Ithaca College sits in fourth place. Unranked Thomas More College, Framingham State University and Rowan University are fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, while No. 25 ranked Gallaudet holds the eighth place position. Amherst and Alfred are tied for ninth, rounding out the top 10.

Established in 1936 as the Lambert Trophy to recognize supremacy in Eastern college football, the award has since grown to recognize the best team in the East in the Bowl Subdivision. In 1957, the Lambert Cup was created to recognize non-Division I-A teams, and in 1966 a Division III award was added. In 1983, the Lambert family decided the Meadowlands Sports Complex would be the best organization with a sincere and involved interest in college athletics to sponsor and manage the award, and since that time, the awards have been known as the Lambert Meadowlands Awards.

To be eligible for the Lambert Meadowlands Award, a school must be located in the East or play at least half of its schedule against eligible Lambert teams. The territory includes New York, New Jersey, New England and Pennsylvania, while teams in the bordering states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia and the District of Columbia qualify if at least half of their schedule features eligible teams.
