INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA has released its second Division III Regional Rankings for football and Gallaudet University is ranked fifth in the East region out of 10 available positions. Last week, the Bison were ranked third in the Division III Regional Rankings, the first-time GU had ever been ranked in the regional rankings.
The Bison (9-0) continued their winning ways after an impressive win over Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) opponent Anna Maria College, 35-7, last Saturday to clinch the conference title. Gallaudet (6-0 ECFC) travels to the Bronx, N.Y., to face conference opponent SUNY Maritime (4-5, 4-2 ECFC) in the final game of the regular season. The Bison look to earn 10 wins for the first time in program history and extend their school record 11-game winning streak in the regular-season finale.
No. 1 Hobart College (8-0) and No. 2 Ithaca College (8-1) maintained their top spots in the East Region after defeating St. Lawrence, 37-7, and Salisbury, 24-23, respectively. No. 3 Lebanon Valley College and No. 4 Rowan University jumped Gallaudet to take the third and fourth spots. Framingham State University (8-1) holds the No. 6 position while Alfred University (7-2) and St. John Fisher College (7-2) are tied for the seventh spot. Rounding out the top 10 are Salve Regina College (7-1) in ninth and newcomer SUNY Brockport (6-3) coming in at No. 10.
With Gallaudet clinching the ECFC title last week against Anna Maria College, they earned one of the 24 automatic qualifiers into the 2013 NCAA Division III football championship, which is made up of 32 teams and starts on Nov. 23. Gallaudet's football team becomes the first men's team in school history to make a NCAA tournament.
