SALT LAKE CITY – Fans of Gallaudet University football and Bison athletics will have the chance to see former standout Tony Tatum in his only East Coast appearance with the Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League (AFL) on Friday, July 12, in Philadelphia. The Blaze (5-10) will trek across the country to face the Philadelphia Soul (10-5) in the Wells Fargo Center at 7:35 p.m.
Tatum is slated to start at cornerback after starting his first two games at linebacker. The Blaze, who has been eliminated from the playoffs, has lost three straight and six of the past seven games. Philadelphia, who is riding a five-game winning streak, has already clinched the East Division for a second consecutive year.
Tatum made his AFL debut on June 3 in San Antonio as the Blaze lost a close, 42-41, game. He made three tackles and an interception, near the goal line, to prevent a Talons’ touchdown in the first quarter.
Two weeks later, Tatum made his home debut at the EnergySolutions Arena and helped the Blaze defeat the Jacksonville Sharks, 62-55. He made 5.5 tackles and grabbed his second interception of the season and returned it 16 yards in the second quarter. Tatum hasn’t suited up during the current three-game losing streak.
Tickets cost from $13-$200 (front row) and can be purchased at the Wells Fargo Center online or on game day. If you cannot make the game you can watch online here: http://blaze.arenafootball.com/allaccess.
Tatum helped to lead Gallaudet to a 7-3 record, 5-2 mark in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) last season. Tatum earned dozens of honors including being named a D3football.com All-American fourth team defense, BSN All-America first team, ECFC Defensive Player of the Year, ECFC Special Teams Player of the Year, two-time All-ECFC honoree to name a few.
