WASHINGTON – The newly formed Piesman Trophy, presented by Sports Blog Nation (SB Nation), honors the greatest non-lineman play of the 2015 college football season by a lineman. SB Nation revealed its 2015 Piesman Trophy Watch List on Friday and Gallaudet University offensive lineman Todd Collins (East Islip, N.Y.) is on it. Collins is one of 38 linemen on the list and the only player from a NCAA Division III school.
The Piesman Trophy will be awarded for the best play in which a lineman throws, catches, or runs with the ball, because those are things linemen don't usually do. The play can come from any level of college football, from FBS to Division III.
Finalists for the 2015 Piesman Trophy will be announced on Monday, Nov. 30. The award will be given out in New York City on Friday, Dec. 11, the day before the Heisman Trophy is announced.
Collins was named to the 2014 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference all-conference first team offense for his play on the Bison line. The two-time All-ECFC selection served as one of Gallaudet's co-captains last season. He helped to anchor an offensive line that averaged 165.6 yards per game as GU accumulated the third most rushing yard in the conference with 1,490. Collins started all nine games for the buff and blue.
