MARSHFIELD, Mass. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its weekly honors for the week of Sept. 5 and freshman quarterback Timel Benton (Columbia, S.C.) was awarded Rookie of the Week for his performance last Saturday night. Benton shares the honor with Norwich University freshman running back Patrick Brown who was also named ECFC Rookie of the Week.
In his collegiate debut under center, the freshman led the team in rushing with 17 rushes for 86 yards (averaging 5.1 yards per carry). His longest run of the night was a scramble for 22 yards in a 43-6 loss to Shenandoah. He completed 2 of 5 passes (40 percent) for 24 yards and had one interception.
Maritime (N.Y.) took three of the four honors for the week. Maritime (N.Y.) junior quarterback Thomas Wright was named ECFC Offensive Player of the Week, Maritime (N.Y.) junior defensive back Nick Conte was selected as ECFC Defensive Player of the Week and Maritime (N.Y.) junior kicker Matthew Murphy was picked as ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
This is Gallaudet's first ECFC Player of the Week award this season and the first for Benton.
Gallaudet (0-1) welcomes Earlham College (0-1) to Hotchkiss Field on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. Both teams are seeking its first win in over two years. Earlham has lost 24 consecutive games while Gallaudet's streak stands at 15.
