Gallaudet Athletic Department End of Year Awards

Washington, DC.- The Gallaudet University
department of Athletics handed out its annual end-of-the-year
awards Monday afternoon. Mikaela Gardner,
Damian Forkner, Christian
Deaton, Scott Cohen(Kula,
Hawaii/MSSD), Brittany Ellenbecker (St. Joseph,
MN/Minnesota State Academy f/t Deaf), Chi Ming Pun
(Flushing, New York/Lexington School for the Deaf), Paige
Johnson (N. Richland Hills, TX/Texas School f/t Deaf),
Erin Phillips ( Gibsland, Louisiana/Louisiana
School for the Deaf), Jeremy Shepps
(Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania/Cumberland Valley), Tony
Tatum (Birmingham, Alabama/Huffman), Richard
Bailey (Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro/Marie Katzenbach
School f/t Deaf), Justine Jeter
(Noblesville,IN/Indiana School f/t Deaf), Casey
McCullough (Susanville, CA/California School f/t
Deaf-Fremont), James McGowan (Palm Coast,
Florida/Florida School f/t Deaf), Brittany Ellenbecker,
Arthur Chan (Elk Grove, CA/Calif School f/t Deaf-
Fremont), Casey Crouch (Tyler,
TX/Homeschooled), Sekoe White (Lexington,
KY/P.L Dunbar) and Carlisle Robinson(Carmel,
Indiana/Carmel) were honored for the academic and athletic
achievements. The award descriptions are below:
Spielberger Award honors those who make valuable
contributions to the programs, shows a positive attitude towards
players and coaches and works and meets coaches' expectations.
-Mikaela Gardner (Track and Field)
-Damian Forkner (Basketball and football)
Bison Crew of the Yearaward honors an outstanding
student worker who shows a positive attitude towards the
community.
-Christian Deaton
Unsung Hero Award is given to student-athletes who
make valuable contributions to the programs, generally works in the
background making it possible for others to succeed, and works hard
but whose work typically goes unnoticed.
-Scott Cohen
-Brittany Ellenbecker

Ming Pun
The Rookie of the Year award is given to a
first-year athlete and meets or exceeds coaches expectations.
-Paige Johnson
-Erin Phillips
-Jeremy Shepps
-Tony
Tatum
The Buff Bison Award is awarded to
student-athletes who have a commitment to excellence in training
during the off-season, makes valuable contributions to the program,
and works hard and meets the coaches expectations.
-Richard Bailey
-Justine
Jeter
The Bison Comeback Awardis given to a
student-athlete who recovered from injury, and overcame a
significant obstacle to return to a high level of competition due
to injury.
-Casey McCullough
-James
McGowan
The Al Van Nevel Awardis given to a
senior athlete who holds a Grade Point Average of 3.5 or better,
demonstrates positive leadership on and off the court/field and
consistently exhibits good sportsmanship on and off the
court/field.
-Brittany Ellenbecker
The Scholar Athlete of the YearAward honors the
senior male and female with the highest G.P.A. in the Athletic
Department.

Crouch
The Student-Athlete of the YearAward is given to a
male and female who demonstrate leadership, good sportsmanship,
being a good role model on and off the field/court, and who is
the top athletic performer in the department.
