Bison football kicks off summer camp with BBQ

WASHINGTON, D.C.-President Robert Davila, Provost Stephen Weiner, Dean A. Dwight Benedict and Athletic Director Mike Weinstock were on hand yesterday evening to welcome the Bison football team at a barbecue on the track next to the newly resurfaced Hotchkiss Field.

After the team arrived on site en masse, Dr. Davila welcomed the returning veterans and incoming freshmen by offering words of wisdom and advice for the upcoming academic year. Head Coach Ed Hottle followed suit, stressing the importance of success in the classroom first, and supplementing that with success on the football field.

Athletic Director Weinstock presented Dr. Davila, Provost Weiner, and Dean Benedict each with a personalized Bison jersey bearing their last name across the back as a gift of appreciation for the support that Gallaudet Athletics has received from the university administration.

The team also posed for pictures under the lights on Hotchkiss Field for the first time in school history. Gallaudet opens its 2008 football slate at home against Hiram College (Ohio) on Saturday, September 6. Kickoff is at 12:00 p.m.
