David Tossman Named Sports Information Director
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Gallaudet University Director of Athletics
Michael Weinstock announced the addition of David Tossman '91 as
the new Bison Sports Information Director, effective September 9.
Tossman spent the past nine years in the GU Public Relations
office, working as a writer and as the Visitors Center
Coordinator.
Tossman is a prolific writer and has written for all the
University's publication, including On the Green (the University's
weekly faculty and staff newsletter); Gallaudet Today: The Alumni
Newsletter (sent to the University's alumni on a bi-annual basis;
Gallaudet Today: The Magazine (a 48 page magazine); and 8th and
Florida: The Gallaudet Connection (sent to Gallaudet's neighbors in
the far northeast neighborhood). He has written articles ranging in
length from 20 words to 3,000 words, including interviews,
profiles, sports stories, and general interest stories.
During the 2000-2001 school year, Tossman served as the
University's Sports Information Director and covered all the
University's sports teams during his tenure and wrote profiles and
stories about many of the University's student-athletes. This is
what he most looks forward to during his return to Gallaudet's
Athletics Department.
"I enjoy the interaction with our student-athletes," Tossman said.
"Every student here at Gallaudet is here because they have big
dreams for their future and their goals are limitless. I look
forward to meeting with them and telling their stories. They come
from all over the world and all over the U.S. and they have so many
stories to tell us that we learn as much from them as they do from
us."
Tossman was a four-year defensive back on the Gallaudet football
team including the 9-1 team in 1987. He played on the old grass
fields and envies today's student-athletes who will be the first to
play on artificial turf, including the football and soccer
teams.
His family is a big part of his life. Tossman is married to Kim
(Hawkins) Tossman '93, and they have two boys, Terry (12) and
Andrew (9). For the past 3 winters David has coached both of his
boys youth basketball teams and hopes to do so again this winter.
He also enjoys watching his sons play other sports such as
football, soccer, and baseball. In his spare time he can be found
bike riding around BWI airport and the WB and A trail; playing
catch with his kids, and enjoying the sights of Washington D.C.
