Gallaudet drops CAC opener to Marymount
ARLINGTON, Va. - The Gallaudet University men's basketball team lost its Capital Athletic Conference opener 78-66 on the road Tuesday night against Marymount (Va.) University before a crowd of 550 at the Verizon Sports Arena.
Gallaudet (0-2, 0-1 CAC) was led offensively by sophomore guard Tony Tatum (Birmingham, Ala.) and senior guard Johnny Jackson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.). Tatum scored 11 of his team-high 17 points in the first half as he tallied five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Jackson grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and matched Tatum with three assists as he poured in 16 points. Freshman Joshua Sisco (Spartanburg, S.C.) came off the bench to net 15 points.
Sisco drained one of his three 3-pointers at the 10:35 mark in the first half to give GU its second and final lead of the game up two, 23-21. Marymount took a 10-point lead into halftime up 42-32.
In the second half, the Saints (1-1, 1-0 CAC) pulled away as they built a lead as high as 19 points before Gallaudet netted three 3-pointers in the final three minutes of play to close the gap to 12 points in the loss.
The Saints were led by Tarek Amoury's 21 points and 10 rebounds. Sam Sentz (14 points) and Patrick Prewitt (11 points) were the other Marymount players to reach double figures in points.
The Bison are off until Monday, November 23, when GU welcomes Christendom College to the Field House for an 8 p.m. game.
