Bison drop physical battle with Sea Gulls, 66-58

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Gallaudet University and Salisbury University entered Wednesday evening's Capital Athletic Conference men's basketball game seeking a first conference win but in the end the Bison fell short against the Sea Gulls, 66-58, at the Field House. Salisbury (5-6, 1-2 CAC) won the physical battle over Gallaudet (4-6, 0-4 CAC) as the game featured tough play in the post, fouls and key free throws.

The Bison cut the Salisbury lead, as large as 15 points in the second half, down to four points several times in the closing minutes but couldn't regain the lead it held in the first half. The Sea Gulls sealed the game with free throws as the maroon and gold finished the game with a 66.7 shooting percentage (28-for-42) from the charity stripe.

Senior Johnny Jackson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) poured in a game-high 17 points as he grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to go with five assists. Freshman Joshua Sisco (Spartanburg, S.C.) came off the bench to score 13 points while sophomores Tony Tatum (Birmingham, Ala.) and Brandon McMillan (Frederick, Md.) reached double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Gallaudet outscored Salisbury in the second half, 35-31, after the Sea Gulls took a 12-point lead into halftime up 35-23. SU had five players in double figures led by Mike Maczko's 17 points and 13 rebounds.

SU outrebounded Gallaudet by three, 44-41, while the Bison scored 18 points off 14 Sea Gull turnovers.

The Bison will next hit the road and face University of Mary Washington on Saturday, January 9, at 3 p.m. in another CAC game.
