Siebert named to CoSIDA Men's Basketball Academic All-District Second Team
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Gallaudet University junior guard Bobby Siebert (St. Paul, Minn.) was selected to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District men's basketball second team for the College Division - District 2, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), announced Thursday.
Siebert holds a 4.0 grade point average and is an international business major. He is the only representative from the Capital Athletic Conference on the men's basketball all-district teams. Of the 105 honorees representing eight different districts from Division I, II and III teams, Siebert is one of four players with a 4.0 GPA. Siebert has seen action in all 17 games for the Bison this season where he has scored 68 points, grabbed 43 rebounds and passed out 29 assists and made 14 steals.
Earlier this season, senior volleyball libero Shana Lehmann (Frederick, Md.) earned Academic All-District first team honors and moved onto the national Academic All-America ballot but was not selected for All-American status. Gallaudet last had an Academic All-American in 1993 and only has earned two selections total in program history since the inception of the awards in 1952. Wayne Langbein was named to the men's at-large second team for track and field in 1993 and Brian Bippus was selected to the men's basketball second team in 1991. Gallaudet is a member of the College Division (Division II, III, NAIA and 2-year schools) and is in District 2 for CoSIDA Academic honors.
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
