Bison men's team wins third straight NEAC game

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team won its third straight conference matchup as the Bison defeated Cazenovia College, 72-57, on Saturday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game in the Field House.

The Bison (4-8, 3-4 NEAC) were down briefly in the first half, 4-2, as the Cazenovia Wildcats (4-8, 2-4 NEAC) led through the first three minutes of play. GU responded with a 13-4 run led by junior guard Ben Coleman (St. Paris, Ohio), who made three 3-pointers, as the Bison led 15-8 at the 13:54 mark. That forced the Wildcats to call a quick timeout, to try and regroup, after the barrage of 3-pointers. The timeout helped as Cazenovia tied the score three times over the next six minutes, but couldn't grab the lead away from the Bison. GU drained four 3-pointers before the half as the buff and blue led 37-30 at intermission. Two of the four 3-point shots made came from freshman guard Stephen Dean (Sacramento, Calif.).

Gallaudet picked up where it left off to start the second half as Coleman made one of his six 3-pointers (6 of 11). He finished with a game-high 18 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Wildcats stayed within striking distance over the final 12 minutes of regulation but could never get closer than eight points. Cazenovia pulled to within 10, 64-54, with 4:51 left in the half and didn't score another field goal until the waning seconds.

Gallaudet had four players score in double digits led by Palmer and senior forward Orion Palmer (Riverside, Calif.), who came off of the bench, to score 18 points. Palmer grabbed seven rebounds to go with two assists and two steals. Junior guard Anton Jackson (Detroit, Mich.) had the games only double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, passed out five assists. Sophomore guard Trey Gordon (Talladega, Ala.) was the fourth Bison to score in the double digits as he matched Jackson's 14-point output. Dean contributed six points and had a game-high three steals.

The Wildcats were lead by Ryan Gavin's double-double as he scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Keith Caiello was second on the team in scoring with 11 points and had two steals. Gallaudet capitalized on Cazenovia's 16 turnovers and turned them into 18 points. The Wildcats controlled the paint as it outscored the Bison 28-16.

Gallaudet returns to the court tomorrow (Sunday, Jan. 19) to take on a NEAC foe Morrisville State College (6-6, 3-3 NEAC) at noon in the Field House.
