CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team saw its 2013-14 season come to a close Saturday with a 72-53 loss on the road in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game against Cazenovia College.
Gallaudet (6-19, 5-13 NEAC) fell behind Cazenovia (7-18, 5-13 NEAC), down 19-10, midway through the first half. The Bison rallied and pulled to within three, 26-23, with four minutes before the break. The Wildcats closed out on a 9-4 run to take a 35-27 lead into halftime.
The Bison opened the second half strong behind freshman forward Joshua McGriff (Somerset, N.J.), who scored seven of his 24 points in the first four minutes. The 9-2 run pulled the Bison within a point, 37-36, but that was as close as they got. Unfortunately, Cazenovia ripped off a 20-0 run to put the game out of reach up 57-36 with 10 minutes to play.
McGriff finished with his fourth double-double as he tallied 10 rebounds, three blocks and one steal. Sophomore guard Trey Gordon (Talladega, Ala.) reached double digits with 12 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Gallaudet and Cazenovia split the season series as the Bison won 72-57 back on Jan. 18 in the Field House. The Bison were winless in February as they end the season with a nine-game losing streak.
The Wildcats were led by Daniel Cunningham who scored 15 points and had four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
