WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's basketball team kept it close through the first half but it was not enough as the Bison fell to North East Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Morrisville State College, 69-50, on Sunday afternoon at the Field House.
The Bison (4-9, 3-3 NEAC) entered the second half only down by four points, 32-28, but were unable overcome the deficit as the Mustangs (7-6, 4-3 NEAC) held the lead for the remainder of the game. The Bison fought hard to bring the game within six points, 39-33, with 14:45 left, but this would be the closest Gallaudet would get to taking the lead as the Mustangs scored the next eight points. GU was unable to recover from this short but potent scoring drive as Morrisville went onto its fourth conference win. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Bison, caps a five-game homestand where GU went 3-2.
Morrisville outscored the Bison, 30-18, in the paint and held a 13-6 edge on second chance points. The Mustangs received 22 points from their bench led by Will Thomas' 11 points.
Morrisville had three players in double digits led by Brandon Hanks (15 points, nine rebounds), Kucjok Ater (12 points, eight rebounds) and Thomas.
The Bison continue conference play on Saturday, Jan. 25, with an away game at SUNYIT at 1 p.m.
