YORK, Pa. - Former Gallaudet University standout Robert Haney '06 was named to the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Silver Anniversary men's basketball team. The CAC is celebrating its 25th year of varsity competition and is honoring 25 former and current student-athletes from one of the 19 championship sports. Selection to these teams are primarily based on season-ending conference awards as voted by the conference coaches.
Gallaudet University was a founding member of the CAC in 1989 and was a proud member until it left in 2010 to join the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
Haney was the 2005-06 CAC Player of the Year as he led the Bison to a 14-12 record his senior season. That capped off a four-year career that saw Haney land on an All-CAC team every season including three straight first team honors (2003-06). He was also the 2002-03 CAC Rookie of the Year during his freshman season.
Haney is one of GU's top scorers in school history as he finished with 1,927 points in 102 games as he averaged 18.9 points per game. He recorded 898 rebounds, 260 assists, 243 steals, and 115 blocks in his career at Gallaudet.
The CAC was organized as a six-team affiliation in 1989 and began championship competition with the winter sports during the 1990-91 season. Membership changes in the last decade ultimately created a 10-team conference that has become one of the strongest in NCAA Division III.
CAC teams have won 18 national team championships, and dozens of other teams have finished in among the top four in NCAA Division III competition. To learn more about the CAC Silver Anniversary Team please visit: www.cacsports.com.
