MINNEAPOLIS – Gallaudet University senior guard Trey Gordon (Talladega, Ala.) was named to the 2015-16 D3hoops.com men's basketball All-East Region third team on Monday. This is Gordon's second consecutive year he has received this honor and the fourth in school history. Former Bison great Robert Haney Jr. was a two-time third team selection to the All-Middle Atlantic Region (2002-03, 2003-04).
Gordon is one of three North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) players on the D3hoops.com All-Region team. Lancaster Bible College senior forward C.J. Dunston, the two-time reigning conference player of the year and an All-East second team selection last season, and junior guard Bryce Williams were named to the All-East second team this season.
Gordon, a two-time All-NEAC first team selection and a two-time College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America team selection, was among one of the top 3-point shooters in Division III this season as he is tied for 14th in the nation for 3-point field goals (86) and 39th in 3-point field goal percentage (41.7). He also led the team in points per game (17.8) while leading the Bison to an 18-8 record, tying the school record for wins, and 14-4 conference mark. Gordon concluded his career in 15th place on the all-time school points leaderboard with 1,211. The Bison finished the season in the NEAC tournament semifinals.
Players chosen to the D3hoops.com All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection. The men's All-American team will be announced at the end of this week, in conjunction with the Division III men's championships, and the women's will be announced in the week following the Division III women's semifinals.
This is the 15th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 19th annual All-American selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.
There were 776 nominations for men's and women's basketball all-region consideration. Sports Information Directors (SID) in each region voted on the teams. Schools were contacted multiple times to make sure players were nominated by their respective SID. The All-Region teams include three teams of five players (two teams if the region has 40 or fewer teams), a player of the year, rookie of the year and coach of the year. The Northeast region has four teams due to the amount of schools in its area.
