WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University men's and womens basketball teams are preparing for this Saturday's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) semifinals, concurrently, for the first time since the 2010-11 season. The Bison teams will travel to Lancaster, Pa., for this weekend's NEAC Final Fours being held at the Horst Athletic Center on the campus of Lancaster Bible College. The Chargers are the No. 1 seed in both tournaments.
The men's team earned their way into the NEAC Final Four via a 85-69 victory over Penn St.-Berks in the quarterfinals while the women's were able to hold off Bryn Athyn, 76-70 on Tuesday night.
GU men's team will face the No. 1 team in the NEAC North Division, Morrisville State College (18-7), at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, while the women's team will play the No. 1 team in the North Division, SUNY Poly (21-5) later that night at 8 p.m.
Men's Preview: Gallaudet (18-7) vs. Morrisville State (18-7), 3 p.m.
GU has played against Morrisville State once earlier this month on Feb. 1 when the Bison came out with the win at home, 87-80.
In the lone matchup, senior guard Trey Gordon (Talladega, Ala.) led the Bison attack, scoring a team-high 26 points, two 3-pointers, and junior guard Raymond Nelson (Riverside, Calif.) added 20 points and a game-high six assists. Junior center Joshua McGriff (Somerset, N.J.) chipped in 17 points, seven rebounds while senior forward Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich.) recorded a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
GU holds a slight edge in the all-time series between these two schools, 5-4. The winner of this game will advance to the championship game on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 12:30 p.m. to play against the winner of the other semifinal game between SUNY Poly/Lancaster Bible.
Gallaudet defeated SUNY Poly, 76-58, on the road on Jan. 17. The Bison are 0-2 against Lancaster Bible this season as GU lost 91-73 (Jan. 30) on the road and 76-64 (Feb. 18) at home.
Women's Preview: Gallaudet (15-11) vs. SUNY Poly (21-5), 8 p.m.
GU played SUNY Poly once this season on the road and lost, 68-51, on Jan. 17.
Sophomore forward Kelsey Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) led the Bison with 12 points and nine rebounds and senior forward Danielle Morris (St. Louis, Mich.) added six points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Senior guard Zamica Gage (Washington, D.C.) recorded a game-high six assists as the Bison turned the ball over 26 times to just 11 for the Wildcats in the loss.
SUNY Poly holds a 4-3 edge in the all-time series between the two schools. The winner of this game will advance to the championship game on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 2:30 p.m. to play against the winner of the other semifinal game between Morrisville St./Lancaster Bible.
Gallaudet lost to Morrisville St., 61-50, at home on Feb. 1. The Bison are 0-2 against Lancaster Bible this season as GU lost 87-60 (Jan. 30) on the road and 73-52 (Feb. 18) at home.
Ticket Information: The NEAC men's and womens basketball championships will held at the Horst Athletic Center. General admission (bleacher seating) will cost $5.00 with VIP admission (VIP seating) set at $7.00. Tickets for both GU men's and women's games on Saturday are still available. If Lancaster Bible College wins its respective games on Saturday, there will be limited reserved seats available on Sunday for the visiting team fans, with priority going to the visiting team players' family members. Any unused reserved tickets, along with any other reserved tickets not used, will go on sale 15 minutes prior to the contest.
Follow the Game: Fans that do not have tickets into the gym can still watch the game on campus as Lancaster Bible will be showing the games via simulcast in Sebastian Academic Center Room 101 on Saturday and in Good Shephard Chapel on Sunday.
